Whilst the University continues to await government’s response to the Fee Commission of Inquiry into Higher Education and Training, the University, after consultation with the Student Representative Council and relevant stakeholders, has decided to maintain the status quo.

This means that also for 2024 academic year, the state will subsidise an 8% fee increase for those with joint family income below R600,000 (six hundred thousand rand) per annum. Students with joint family income above R600,000 per annum will pay an 8% fee increase. This would result in 86% of UJ students qualifying for a state subsidised fee increase of 8%. The increase will be applied on tuition and UJ owned residences only.
